Sampdoria 3-0 Inter Highlights
Defensive errors were the name of the game as the Inter ship was sunk in style. Key players of la Beneamata were missing, perhaps owing to the clash against Manchester United next week.
One can only imagine what Rivas was thinking, as Cassano easily dispossessed him in the 8th minute and proceeded to coolly chip it over Toldo to make it 1-0. This was a good early breakthrough for the Blucerchiati, since the last time they beat Inter was almost ten years ago.
Around the half hour mark, Rivas added to his list of atrocious errors by leaving Pazzini unmarked on a corner. Along with a little help from Raggi, the striker made no mistake as the ball was headed into the back of the net.
After some good play down the left that was followed by a save from Toldo, Zanetti’s awkward attempt at a clearance fell straight to Pazzini who had an open goal to shoot at. The final nail in the coffin was struck and even the Special One brandished a bitter smile as his side were putting out what was at best an ordinary performance.
Gastaldello was sent off after a second booking with 30 minutes to go, and yet the visitors could not conjure any of the magic that they have shown in maintaining the top spot in the league.
Sampdoria will go into the second leg with one foot in the final, as their opponents need to score at least three goals if they are to progress and stake a claim for the Cup.
